Cozy Modern Farmhouse Living Room
A cozy living / family room is one of the most important rooms in the house. But how do you know if it is the right amount of 'cozy'? I have compiled a list of must have items to truly cozy up, texturize and warm up your most lounged-in space.
This post is in partnership with Plush Rugs, all opinions are my own. Affiliate Links may have been used throughout this post.
1. Lounge worthy seating
If you can't rave about how comfortable your seating is then you probably don't have the right seating. Try to find a couch or sectional that not only fits your color palette but more importantly fits your space and your family. Consider amount of space for napping, cuddling, elevating those tired feet and space for endless bowls of popcorn. Personally, I think it is also important to consider wear and tear -- does the material clean well? Is the color going to show dirt? Will my dog and/or my child spill/wipe/all of the things on it? Our sectional pictured here is the Hodan from Ashley Furniture.
2. Simple Coffee table
Choose a table that will be sturdy enough to put your feet up on but also for take out Chinese. It has to be easy to move and have the option for extra storage. I love the tables that have bottom openings so I can place baskets underneath that will store all of the junk like remotes, phone chargers, iPads and whatever else you don't want sitting out.
3. The perfect area rug
I should have made this #1 because a rug truly is the foundation of a cozy living room. It's what begins your layers of 'cozy." You may notice I've layered our rug on top of carpeting; THIS.IS.THE.WAY.TO.GO!!! Seriously, layering is my favorite. I chose to go with a light weight, texturized but neutral rug for our family space. It is easy to move, clean and adds light, texture and of course cozy. What I love about this rug is that it has so many neutral tones within it that you can basically pair it with any color couch or table. Find this exact rug HERE from my friends over at Plush Rugs, who so kindly helped me complete our new living room!
4. Decor accents
Lighting, wall art, candles, greenery, throw pillows, poufs and anything else that adds texture but not too much clutter. For a modern farmhouse touch, add a chandelier that has wood and metal accents. Wall art should be something that you enjoy looking at everyday; I love my Mother Theresa Quote sign from my friend Maggie, owner of Hunt and Gather. But you can never go wrong with a gallery wall to display your family. Poufs are my favorite way to add texture, depth and extra seating in the living room; this is especially amazing if you have a small space and not a lot of couch seating!
