Baby Boy Nursery
AHH YAY! The NURSERY is DONE...well almost. What you don't see behind the closet door, doesn't matter right? Hubby will be building a custom nursery closet this week - stay tuned for that. Check out my original idea and design board HERE, if you haven't already.
I am so excited to finally share with you THE FAVORITE room in the house!
For this post I have partnered with some INCREDIBLE companies and shops that have helped me make it come to life. FYI: Certain products were gifted to me, I am not being paid to say any of this and of course the opinions and the design are 100% my own ideas and visions!
The Crib
DaVinci Baby has THE cutest cribs and for very good prices! I wanted a white crib for two reasons; it's neutral and goes with anything and with that said, it can be used for any sex! We went with the the Carter's By DaVinci Taylor 4 in 1 convertible crib, keeping in mind that this guy could get a few years use out of it and save us some money! The crib itself took us maybe 10-15 minutes to assemble, is very easy to move around and comes from a very trusted brand - therefore earning our trust!
The Crib Mattress
I originally had a basic $50 crib mattress on our baby registry until I found Newton Baby and learned what they were all about. I found on their site that a baby gets 97% more air on one of their mattresses when compared to a basic crib mattress...WHAT!!!??? OK but what really sold me, the mattress itself is 100% washable it has absolutely no foam, latex, or adhesives and also important to me it is hypoallergenic and free of off-gassing. See all of this used to be gibberish to me until I became a mom and realized - I have to grow this human, then keep it alive and healthy. So now I'm all about all the safe and healthy things, for the baby of course! Not to mention, I plan to use this mattress for future children - it pays off ;)
The Fan
This may be an odd one to mention when doing a nursery reveal. But hear me out. One of my mama friends, Kari aka @littleblessedfarmhouse and I were chatting about pretty chandeliers for the baby's room and she suggested I do some more research on putting a fan in there instead because studies show a correlation in ceiling fans and prevention of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). If you don't know what SIDS is, read all about it HERE. I found THIS article on PUBMED basically saying that ceiling fan use while infant is sleeping can reduce the risk of SIDS by 72% - YOU GUYS this is HUGE, DOCTORS, researchers, inventors, alllll kinds of people use this data to make recommendations to pediatricians who then make recommendations to you.
Anyways, I can talk nerdy evidence to you all day...LETS talk about this GORGEOUS Hunter Co. fan Company's SIMPLE connect collection that is SMART - YES it can be controlled by a remote or an APP or can be synced with your Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant or Apple HomeKit!. It is dead silent (perfect for a sleeping newborn) and has LED lighting. Huge win. If something this stylish, functional and SIMPLE can decrease death for my baby by 72% I AM DOWN FOR IT. We chose a fan that went with our Modern Farmhouse style - I wanted something that was pretty of course and something that could grow with the baby and the room. But it wasn't until we installed and used it that I realized how much I would love A CEILING FAN. We went with THIS fan, called the Signal, the blades are reversible and one of the sides matched our desired wood tone perfectly!
The Details
Shiplap Wall
The wall was SO easy. Hubby used 1/4th inch sanded plywood cut into 8 inch strips. We used tile spacers for the gaps between the wood and while nail gunning to the wall, filled the nail holes and any obvious meeting points with THIS wood filler, gave it a light sand and painted it with PEPERCORN By Sherwin Williams REDUCED BY 50% (which I don't even think made a difference from the original color).
